6.9-magnitude earthquake rocks Taiwan - UPI.com

TAIPEI, Taiwan, April 26 (UPI) -- A strong earthquake shook southeastern Taiwan Monday but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

The
U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.9-magnitude quake struck just before 11 a.m. off the southeastern Taiwan coast, 152 miles south of Japan's Ryukyu Islands and 167 miles east of T'ai-tung, Taiwan.

New 6.1 magnitude earthquake strikes Chile


We hear reports of an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 today, in the Bio- Bio region of Chile, near to the area where a large earthquake in February caused major damage and fatalities. So far there are no reports of injuries or damage.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey the tremor lasted 25 seconds and occurred at 06:03 a.m., 41 miles south of Concepcion which suffered badly in the February quake. A spokesman for the State National Emergency Office said, “There is no reported damage to infrastructure or injuries, but people were shaken up”.
The previous earthquake in February was an 8.8 magnitude quake and caused massive damage and tsunamis that caused further trauma. Around 500 people were sadly killed in that quake, and the Chilean government.

Solomon Islands Earthquake: No Tsunami Expected | World News | Sky News


A powerful earthquake has struck off the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific.

The US Geological Survey said the 7.1 magnitude quake hit southwest of the Kira Kira Island, with the epicentre around 130 miles away from the capital Honiara.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said they do not expect a tsunami and there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Magnitude 6.3 earthquake hits Papua New Guinea | WORLD News

The quake, which hit about 9:15 a.m. local time/23:15 GMT, was centered about 29 km east of the city of Lae in the Pacific nation.


Officials at the National Disaster Centre in Lae said the quake had been felt in the city but there were no reports of buildings collapsing

Chinese rescuers fight clock to find quake survivors as death toll hits 791


YUSHU, Qinghai, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Relatives cried, monks prayed, and rescuers clapped Friday as a teenage girl emerged alive after more than two days under the flattened ruins of a hotel in quake-stricken west China.
The 13-year-old was immediately carried away to a medical center in Gyegu town at about 2 p.m. as delighted rescuers congratulated each other.
